5G in Pakistan — Current Status
Pakistan's 5G rollout is underway with Jazz, Zong, and Telenor conducting trials in major cities. Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi are the first targets for commercial 5G launch. However, as of 2026, 5G is not yet available for the general public commercially across Pakistan.
Should You Buy a 5G Phone Now?
The short answer: Yes — but only if the phone you want happens to be 5G. Do not pay a significant premium purely for 5G. Here is why: 5G coverage in Pakistan is 1-2 years away from being widespread. Your current 4G phone is perfectly fine until then. However, if you are buying a phone in 2026, most mid-range and flagship phones already include 5G as a standard feature.
Which Pakistani 5G Bands to Look For
When 5G launches commercially in Pakistan, the expected bands are n28 (700MHz) and n78 (3.5GHz). Most Qualcomm Snapdragon-based phones support these bands. Check if a specific phone supports Band n28 and n78 before buying.
Bottom Line
Do not buy an older or worse phone just because it is 5G. A great 4G phone beats a mediocre 5G phone every day until Pakistan's 5G is commercially available. But if two similar phones are priced similarly and one has 5G — choose 5G for future-proofing.
